There’s a chance that many of you out there have heard the timeless rock ballad, Jukebox Hero by the band Foreigner. It was released in 1981, so maybe some of you haven’t heard of it? We’re not going to be talking about a Jukebox Hero today, but we are going to be talking about a Juicebox Hero! He may not have stars in his eyes, but he is sure to make your taste buds know he’s the star of the show.

We are talking about a beer called Pulpy from Kettlehead Brewing Company out of Tilton, NH. Pulpy is a Juicebox character brought to life by Kettlehead Brewing. Sam Morrissette, co-owner and co-founder stated that “We have kind of hitched our wagon to Pulpy, bringing him to life.” When Pulpy was drawn for the first time Sam stated that “I knew he was going to be a huge marketing piece for us, we’ve had fun incorporating him and his family into the Kettlehead culture.” You heard Sam right when he said his family, as there are other spin-offs of Pulpy.

The current Pulpy family members include his wife, Mrs. Pulpy which is a Hibiscus-forward “Rose IPA,” his big brother Wicked Pulpy which is a Double New England style IPA, Cousin Pulpy which is a cousin from New Zealand, Uncle Pulpy which is a big Double IPA that only comes around at Christmas, and last, but most certainly not least, his dog Lil Pulpy which is a session IPA. It is pretty neat to see how Kettlehead has brought all these characters to life to take on different personas, just like different hops can completely change the characteristics of different beers. Big kudos to the marketing team for creating the original idea and then branching it off into different versions.

Let’s talk Pulpy

Now that we have briefly introduced you to the whole family, let us talk about the original Pulpy, the one who started it all for this line of beers. Pulpy is a triple dry-hopped New England style IPA hopped with Mosaic, Citra and El Dorado, but Pulpy does not contain any actual pulp. Only the freshest ingredients and the tastiest of hop varietals. While you might not find any pulp in the beer, it could fool you into thinking otherwise. This beer is a citrus lover’s dream! The citrus hits you right from the start and has a strangle hold on your taste buds. While you typically want to get out of a strangle hold, our taste buds did not seem to mind at all. The mouthfeel is so soft, it is like sipping on a juicy cloud, with a delightfully smooth and velvety texture. The finish has a subtle hop bitterness to it that dissipates quickly, just enough to let you know you are still sipping on an IPA. It is easy to see why Pulpy has taken on its own persona for Kettlehead. A beer this good should be sought out and kept in your fridge. You never know when you might want to reach for a fresh Pulpy.

Kettlehead Brewing Company

We need to give a huge shout out to Kettlehead Brewing Company here. Sam Morrissette absolutely delivered on his words that we would be blown away by their beer. Located in the Lakes Region of New Hampshire, they offer a variety of craft beer and unique pub food. They are known for their incredible IPAs and palate pleasing Sour beers. It might be hard to stand out in the New England region making craft beer, but we would put them on a must stop by list if you are ever in that area. Kettlehead Brewing has two locations, located conveniently within just minutes of one another. Both locations offer both craft beer and food menus to either quench your thirst or satisfy your stomach, or both.

Don’t just take our word for it though, stop in and see them and enjoy one of their many, quality craft beers on draft, or select from their can options. Who knows, you might even see Pulpy while you are there. If you do stop by, be sure and tell them the Beer Guys sent you!
