Beer Guys Radio Craft beer Podcast new podcast cover 2023

After 7 years, it’s time for some big changes for Beer Guys Radio

We launched Beer Guys Radio on January 2, 2016 as a small, local radio show in Atlanta with the slogan Georgia Radio for Georgia Beer.  We had no aspirations to be more than a local craft beer show focusing on the 50ish breweries in our wonderful state.  At the time, you couldn’t buy beer at a brewery here, it was all about “tours and tastings.”

Then a station manager from Huntsville, AL heard our show on a trip to Atlanta and wanted us on his station.  We put all we had into covering craft beer in Alabama and Georgia.  Then another station (Tennessee, I think?) wanted the show.  We figured if two people wanted to hear us talk about beer then others might want to do the same.  We partnered with a radio network for syndication and grew to cover beer around the World.  Fast forward and today we’re syndicated on over 60 radio stations across the country.

So much has changed over these last 7 years.  Some good, some great, some… not so much.  The radio growth has been tough, and expensive.  Radio is an interesting business filled with interesting people and we often felt like we didn’t belong.  That said, I do have to say thanks to Marcus Certa at WVMT in Burlington, VT and Greg Tish and Jon Jopling at WVFT in Tallahassee, FL.  They’ve always been huge supporters of Beer Guys Radio and just all around great people.

A fresh look and a format adjustment

Hopefully you noticed our fancy new logo above.  Our old one served us well but it was a bit dated and didn’t really give off the fun and friendly vibe we wanted.  So, we changed it.  Let us know what you think.

After careful consideration we have decided to end the radio broadcast of our show.  Radio was not giving us the growth we wanted and we believe the radio format hindered the growth of the podcast.  Ending our radio run is bittersweet.  Admittedly, we did think it was pretty cool to be “nationally syndicated radio hosts” and it’s something we’re proud we accomplished and will never forget.  But, we’re also excited with the potential for the Beer Guys Radio podcast free from the shackles of radio clocks and 13 minutes of ads in a 1-hour show.

Finally, we lost our studio space.  We’ve partnered with the folks at Ironmonger Brewing for over 4 years now.  We helped spread the word about their brewery and they provided us a space for our studio.  However, due to brewery growth our space is now needed for a taproom expansion and distillery, so we had to move out.  If you’ve ever visited us at the studio you know what a comfy place it was to have a conversation and share a few beers.  We’ll definitely miss it.

The good stuff!  The Beer Guys Radio Show lives on!

With the change to podcast only we’re pretty excited about what we can do with Beer Guys Radio.  One BIG change is that we won’t have to break every 10 minutes and our conversations can flow more smoothly.  That’s going to be great.  Being podcast-only also allows us some flex in the length of our show.  If you were a podcast listener then you got us for about 42 minutes each episode.  We’re going to target around an hour but if the conversation is flowing we have the freedom to run a bit longer.

For the time being we’ll operate from our home studios, which we’ve all been working to upgrade.  And for the first time, No Mic Nate will get a mic.  Do we have to change his name?  Maybe we’ll even see Smalls on the show a bit more.

Listen, Subscribe, Tell a Friend

The official change will happen with our show releasing on May 6, 2023.  We’d love for you to check it out and tell a friend to do the same.  You can get all our episodes, as well as direct links to most popular podcast players, right here.

Let’s do this.  BGR 2.0 coming soon!
