Brewvangelism with Oyster City Brewing Co. | Episode 141
Oyster City Brewing Co. is spreading the good word of craft beer to the Florida Panhandle
There’s not a whole lot in Apalachicola. When visitors to this small coastal town asked for a local beer, the best they could do was from a brewery a couple of hours away. The owners of the Owl Cafe and taproom saw an opportunity and after plenty of practice and planning, they opened Oyster City Brewing Co. in 2014.
Clayton Mathis has been a craft beer fan since college and is now the Head Brewer at Oyster City, but his LinkedIn profile says he’s the Head Brewvangelist. He explains that more than just brewing beer, he wants to spread the word about craft beer to everyone. A noble mission indeed. We talk with Clayton about the craft beer scene in small-town Florida, brewing with unique ingredients, what beer pairs best with oysters, the interesting story behind their tap handles, and their upcoming Apalach Oktoberfest.
In the news this week Brian continues his “Big Beer Can’t Catch a Break” series with layoff news at MillerCoors, breweries pulling together to raise awareness via Pints for Prostates.
We sampled a lot of Oyster City beer this week, including their award-winning Hooter Brown, enjoyed a Morning Snack from Three Taverns, and a couple of brews coming up from upcoming High Card Brewing in Tucker, GA.
