If you know SweetWater (and of course you do) you may think of them for their hoppy beers like 420 and IPA. SweetWater’s Woodlands is a huge departure from those beers. Under the direction of Nick B, the Woodlands produces artfully crafted sour, wild, and barrel-aged brews. If big, double barrel-aged stouts, tequila barrel-aged goses, or a blackberry sour finished in sherry puncheons sound like your kind of beer then you need to check out the Woodlands.
A visit to the Woodlands facility (just next door to the main SweetWater taproom) is a trip to a wood-aged wonderland. American and French oak foeders flank the ground floor with an assortment of wine, whiskey, and other spirit barrels stacked to work their magic on a variety of brews. Head upstairs to the bar and you can enjoy some of the amazing sour and funky beers or big stouts the Woodlands is producing.
The Woodlands Circle Beer Club
To give craft beer connoisseurs first crack at some of the exclusive offerings from the Woodlands, SweetWater created the Woodlands Circle Beer Club. The exclusive club gives members six (6) different, unique beers produced in very limited quantities of ~600 bottles each. You’ll also score a $25 tab at the Woodlands bar, a Woodlands Circle branded glass, as well as invitations to bottle release events, other special events, and news about upcoming releases.
The beers offered to Woodlands Circle members will showcase processes or ingredients that aren’t easily scalable or recreated and can only be offered in small batches. Some of the offerings to date have included:
- Woodlands Chattahoochee Series #1 | Double barrel imperial stout aged in bourbon and cognac barrels with tangerine, vanilla, and lactose
- Woodlands Chattahoochee Series #2 | Golden Sour with mangoes and peaches aged in Chardonnay barrels
- Woodlands Chattahoochee Series #3 | Blackberry Sour aged in Bourbon-finished Sherry puncheons with mint and lime
- Woodlands Chattahoochee Series #4 | Mixed fermentation Gose aged in Anejo Tequila barrels
Woodlands Circle memberships are still open for $149 + tax and are limited to 500 total members. Join now before the first series is over and get all of the above beers plus 2 more to-be-announced brews, Series 2 starts this Summer.
