The gorgeous Elden Ring was met with mixed reviews on release, with users mostly complaining about the poor optimization for the PC version, which spoiled the overall experience. We were curious, if modern computers can not cope with one of the best open worlds, then what will be on the consoles of the past generation, and specifically on PS4? The result surprised.

In this article, I will not talk about the plot, gameplay from a popular online games provider Friv2Online and other details of Elden Ring - my friend AXXID has already done this in his review.

I'm going to do a little technical analysis of a possible PS4 game of the year, and not the Pro version, but the regular one I bought at launch back in 2013. This is where we will find out where the truth is: the console is already outdated and cannot cope with modern friv games (remember Cyberpunk 2077 ), or does someone's hands grow from the wrong place?

The first thing that hit the wrath of gamers after the release of the PC version was frequent drops in frames, the inability to raise the frame rate above 60 and the lack of support for high refresh rates. Undoubtedly, when you have a top PC, you do not expect these shortcomings at all.

With PS4, everything is much simpler - the game promises to produce a picture in 1080p resolution at a frame rate of 30. No sooner said than done. Elden Ring on PS4 really does not sag in any game situation and thus does not interfere with enjoying the adventure.

Here, for example, is a recording from the starting location. There are no vibrations, the picture is smooth and remains the same even after the destroyed objects crumble into small pieces.

But this is a closed location, where the frame rate will be a priori higher. How are things in the open world ?

Surprisingly, exactly the same, although I expected that there would be freezes, because the size of the territory is rather big. Okay, size, the map is oversaturated with interesting places, dungeon entrances (by the way, transitions are seamless), enemies…

But even with such a filling game in technical terms does not disappoint at all.

As you probably know, the hero has a war horse that helps to overcome impressive distances. What will happen to the FPS if you sit on it and epicly deal with enemies? The same. It is interesting that, in addition to stable operation, the picture still does not manage to turn into a “grain” during fast camera movements.

What about bosses ? After all, Elden Ring, following the rules of "soullike", will require filigree accuracy from you in battles with bosses and severely punish even because of one mistake. Will the hunt lose because the friv game freezes at a crucial moment?

Don't worry, this won't happen on PS4 - in important battles, the frame rate remains the same as in other situations. And so I wandered around the world longer - lost in poisonous swamps, visited a ghost town and crept up to a majestic castle. It rained on my last trip, which made the game even more atmospheric than it was before. At this point, I still expected at least some drawdown, but the hopes did not come true.
