Live from Tinypalooza | Ep. 171
Tinypalooza is one of Georgia’s most underrated beer fests
The booming city of Snellville is just far enough from Atlanta that it’s easy for metro residents to brush it off. If you’re not from Georgia, you may have heard Snellville mentioned as the home of American Idol contestant Diana DeGarmo. It’s also home to a great beer bar/bottle shop/cigar bar The Lincoln Fill Station.
Tinypalooza 4.5 was part birthday celebration for co-owner Tiny McClannan and part anniversary party for “The Lincoln.” Tiny and his business partner Brad Tomlinson scour the country to bring in amazing beers. There’s plenty of great Georgia beer, and some bottle pours you won’t find anywhere else close by. As we found out, they also have basketball-and-trashcan beer pong at the event, which was very popular with people of questionable skill.
We’ve partied with The Lincoln crew since their first festival. As a matter of fact, their first event was our very first live remote, when Beer Guys Radio was just a few months old. Each year, we try to talk to a few of the breweries in attendance as well as other cool people who happen to be around. We also catch up with Tiny about the festival and what’s new at the pub.
Brian Roth of The Southern Brewing Co. always greets you with a smile and a hug. He’s straight up one of the nicest people in the craft beer world, and there are a lot of great people in craft beer. Brian was kind enough to hang around as we struggled through some technical difficulties and chat with us about his brewery, his upcoming second location in Monroe, Ga; the recent collaboration brew they did with Beer Guys Radio and the crew from Reddit ATL Beer, and brewing in clay pots called amphoras.
Caroline King (along with co-host Ashley Powers) is spreading the good word of craft beer from a women’s perspective on the Bitch Beer Podcast. Caroline joins us to take about her recent anniversary, what the goal of her show is, and some of the challenges women still face in the craft beer community. We’ve seen some of these biases towards our own Becky Smalls, and although many may be unintentional, they still exist.
Alcovy Brewing‘s Joe Paul and Cody Winters sit down with us to chat about their up-and-coming homebrewery. They’ve won several awards on the homebrew circuit and collaborated with some local breweries to get their beer on at festivals. What’s in store for Alcovy? We’re not really sure. Right now it sounds like they’re just doing their thing and having fun.
See you for 5.5, Lincoln!
