Two Tides owner James Massey talks about the journey from CPA to IPA

Savannah, Georgia’s Two Tides Brewing Co. is only four months old but they’re already making waves with their IPAs and sour beers. While getting his accounting degree, Owner and Head Brewer James Massey started homebrewing. After college, he became a CPA and spent several years shuffling numbers before deciding it was time to start his brewery. Savannah already had a few breweries but James wanted to build in an area where they weren’t allowed. He worked with business owners in the area and the city to change that. After a long battle, Two Tides became a reality.
We talk with James about hazy IPAs, sour beers, small-batch brewing, the importance of branding and artwork, and serving frozen beer from a gas station slushie machine. We also get a few pairing suggestions for Two Tides’ beers and decide that each day needs a total of four drinking sessions.
Craft Beer News
In the news this week Brian tells us about more Big Beer buyouts, celebrating a Belgian saint (with beer, of course), breweries returning to reusable bottles, and a brewery and a donut shop collaborating on a beer.
Beers of the Week
This week we crack open Two Tides Sixfoot and Drowned IPAs, Eventide Kölsch, Trim Tab Breakfast Hero, and some Westbrook Goses. We also open a mystery can with no markings or labeling that turns out to be an amazing Maple Imperial Stout, and we have no clue where it’s from.
