Georgia “Brunch Bill” passes House, headed to Governor
Bloody Marys and Mimosas get all the love when it comes to brunch beverages, but thanks to the passage of the Brunch Bill, you may soon be able to enjoy a craft beer a bit earlier on Sundays. The House (finally) passed Georgia’s Senate Bill 17 to allow earlier alcohol sales on Sundays at privately-owned restaurants and wineries. The bill now heads to Governor Deal for a signature.
As passed, the bill would allow sales as early as 11:00 AM, with local voter approval. Previously, the bill had included language allow sales as early as 10:00 AM as well as earlier sales at retail stores. The Senate removed the retail sales provision.
Sunday alcohol sales were originally approved in Georgia in 2011. The Brunch Bill in various forms has failed to pass both the House and Senate in several previous attempts.
