Kennesaw’s Dry County Brewing Company recently announced the appointment of Kennesaw State University CTO Dr. John Isenhour to the newly created position of Chief Technical Brewing Officer.  I spoke with brewery co-founder Trey Sinclair about what this position entails and what it means for Dry County Brewing Co.  Trey tells me, “He won’t be brewing any beer… he will be bringing his 30+ years of experience to help us navigate the ‘technical’ side of things.”  When Dry County expands and adds a canning line or a bigger brewhouse, Dr. Isenhour will be there to advise them and help them get up to speed quicker.  In addition, he will be presenting on behalf of Dry County at national conferences.

Currently Dr. Isenhour serves as CTO and Associate Professor of the Beer Culture class for Kennesaw State University.  He brings many years of brewing industry experience to Dry County including Brewmaster for Joe’s Brewpub in Illinois and his current work as a member of the joint American Society of Brewing Chemists and Master Brewers Association Higher Education Committee.

KENNESAW, GA — The whirlwind excitement that is 2016 continues for Dry County Brewing Company. A year in which the Kennesaw Start-Up has exploded onto the Georgia craft brewing scene: building their first production facility in February, opening their public tasting room in September and successfully launching several new beers into the Metro Atlanta market along the way. Now, Dry County Brewing Company continues its upward trajectory with the addition of beer industry veteran Dr. John Isenhour to the newly created position of Chief Technical Brewing Officer.

Dr. Isenhour currently serves as Chief Technology Officer and Associate Professor of the Beer Culture class for Kennesaw State University. Dr. Isenhour has over 20 years of brewing industry experience, ranging from Brewmaster for Joe’s Brewpub in Illinois in the mid 90’s to his current work as a member of the joint American Society of Brewing Chemists and Master Brewers Association Higher Education committee.

Dry County Co-Founder, Trey Sinclair, expressed his excitement around the new addition: “We founded Dry County with the goal of inspiring others to make their run in life; to follow their passions, just as other local breweries had served to inspire us. When you look at Dr. John’s career- not only brewing, but passionately teaching beer culture and beer science to others for nearly three decades, I think you would have to say that’s quite the run. We also founded this brewery recognizing the fact that you can have all the passion in the world, but if you aren’t making high quality, consistent beers, you aren’t going to have the opportunity to inspire too many folks. I am very excited to be able to add someone of Dr. John’s caliber on the technical side of brewing to help ensure that the quality and consistency that the market has come to find synonymous with Dry County beers remains intact as we grow the Dry County brand.”

Like most industry vets, Dr. Isenhour’s passion for craft beer began as a homebrewer, eventually garnering national awards for his Lambic style homebrews. While earning his Doctorate Degree at the University of Illinois, Dr. Isenhour began his first foray into commercial brewing. What started as a part time college job eventually led to Dr. Isenhour working his way into the Brewmaster position at Joe’s where he would continue producing high quality Belgian ales, and where acclaimed beer author Jeff Sparrow credits Dr. Isenhour with becoming one of the “early commercial adopters of wild beer” in the United States.

Since that time, Dr. Isenhour has gone on to build a successful career in both the brewing industry as well as the technology field for multiple Colleges and Universities. He has been employed in various technology roles with Kennesaw State University, and has been a Cobb County resident, for the past 14 years.

As the newest member of the Dry County team, Dr. Isenhour is eager to bring his knowledge and experience to the table for one of the fastest growing new breweries in the state. “I was actually starting to plan my own brewery in Kennesaw when I met Trey at a local beer fest. I have been referring to Dry County as “the best new brewery in Georgia” since first tasting their beers. After visiting the brewery and learning what they stand for, it became obvious we should simply join forces. This is a win-win for everyone and great news for craft beer aficionados in the region.”
Lastly, Dr. Isenhour is looking forward to enjoying Dry County’s beers on an even more frequent basis, and while he doesn’t like to pick favorites, he can typically be found with a NeonNeon Berliner Weisse in his hand.

Dry County beers can currently be found on tap around the Metro Atlanta area, and brewery tours are offered Thursday through
