Koko Buni coming back in December
Athens, GA – Creature Comforts is bringing back one of its most comforting beers just in time for the holidays! Koko Buni will be back this year as a seasonal offering and available in the Athens and Atlanta markets. A limited quantity will be packaged in cans, which will be available mid-December in 4-packs in hopes that more consumers will have access to the beer.
Koko Buni is a Milk Porter that is brewed and conditioned with several ingredients including toasted coconut, cocoa nibs, coffee, vanilla, and lactose. David Stein, Co-Founder & Brand Development Director notes, “We decided not to be traditional with the beer and add some ingredients that play well with the already roasty and chocolatey flavors of dark beer. The result is a decadent porter, yet balanced and not over the top.” The flavors are rich and velvety – perfect for cooler days and evenings, but as with most CCBC brews, the key here is balance in flavor. None are overpowering or fatiguing on the palate, but, as Stein continues, “Each flavor has room to individually interact with your palate, which is always a challenge as a brewer when using so many ingredients.”
In the ongoing quest to stay local, Creature Comforts has partnered with several Athens businesses and talent to create Koko Buni. The cocoa nibs are from the local bean-to-bar chocolatier, Condor Chocolates, and the Ethiopian coffee used in the beer is from 1,000 Faces Coffee. Even the can design was created by local artist David Hale in collaboration with Young Athenians. Additionally, Condor Chocolates has partnered up with Creature Comforts to create a Koko Buni chocolate bar, which will incorporate 1,000 Faces coffee and be wrapped in a David Hale designed wrapper. The limited edition bar will be available during Koko Buni’s release with proceeds going directly to Meals on Wheels.
The name “Koko Buni” comes from the raw ingredients used in the beer – koko, which means coconut in Papamiento, a language commonly used in the Caribbean and Buni, which is derived from the word for coffee in Amharic, the primary language found in Ethiopia.
