First Pint Pour
Goodwill is joining Riverwatch Brewery in celebration of the new Georgia law allowing breweries to sell their products directly to consumers with a ceremonial “First Pint Pour” event on Sept. 1.
Currently, Georgia law only allows breweries to offer small samples to customers who pay to tour their facilities. That law will be eliminated Sept. 1, allowing breweries to sell directly to consumers.
Breweries around the state will celebrate the first day of the new law by pouring and serving their first legal pints of beer at breweries since the end of Prohibition.
The Goodwill-Riverwatch fundraiser is benefiting Goodwill’s job training and career development services. The partnership began in 2015 as part of the annual reNew&Brew event showcasing craft beer paired with food prepared by culinary students and instructors at Helms College’s School of Hospitality.
Goodwill and Riverwatch Brewery are selling tickets to the event, and one winner will get the first pint poured at Augusta’s first modern brewery. In addition, the winner will receive a Chef’s Table dinner for eight at Edgar’s Grille–a $500 value–and two tickets to Goodwill’s 2018 reNew&Brew event. Each raffle ticket purchased will allow one person to receive $5 off the price of a tour and tasting on the day of the final tour and drawing on Aug. 31.
The drawing for the raffle will be held at 7 p.m. during Riverwatch Brewery’s final tour Thursday, Aug. 31, and the winner will be announced at the “First Pint Pour” at 4:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 1 at Riverwatch Brewery, which is located at 1175 Fourth St., Augusta.
Tickets cost $10 and are available starting Tuesday, Aug. 1 at Riverwatch and at Edgar’s Grille, 3165 Washington Road. For more information, go to www.goodwillworks.org/firstpint.
