Second Self Urban Tree

Big Apple Ale marks Georgia’s first brewery and cidery collaboration.

Second Self Beer Company and Urban Tree Cidery could be considered neighbors. So it makes sense they teamed up for this first-of-its-kind project in Georgia.

Big Apple Ale (6% ABV) added apples from Cathey Family Orchard in North Georgia as well as some cinnamon during the fermentation process. In addition, both house yeasts from Urban Tree and Second Self were used to create a unique dry-white wine flavor. The result, according to Second Self? The best of beer and cider. The apples bring a light tartness to the beer, and the malt brings a little more body and natural sweetness to cider. This beer is fermented completely dry and is not sweetened – just like traditional natural hard ciders.

Big Apple Ale makes its debut today at Urban Tree Cidery, and then at Second Self’s taproom on Friday, Dec. 22. Both businesses are located on Atlanta’s Westside.

Starting in January 2018, it will also be available in Alabama.
