Max Lager's The Bold Monk

New brewpub will feature Belgian ales, plans include a bottling line

I recently spoke with John Roberts at the release of Helenboch beer, brewed in conjunction with Georgia’s first craft brewery Friends Brewing.  Naturally he’s very excited about the new venture and the location, which is becoming quite a destination for craft beer in Atlanta with several breweries, a brewpub, bottle shops, and beer bars in close proximity to each other.  Here’s some more info via press release:

TO OPEN BREWPUB, BEER GARDEN, AND PRODUCTION BREWERY IN
THIRD & URBAN’S COMPLEX WEST MIDTOWN PROJECT

Atlanta, Ga (April 18, 2017)— Brewed to Serve Restaurant Group, Inc., the Atlanta based restaurant company behind Max Lager’s Wood-Fired Grill & Brewery, White Oak Kitchen & Cocktails and Richards’ Southern Fried, is developing its fourth concept, The Bold Monk; a brewery, restaurant and beer garden to be located in a 12,000 square foot space in Third & Urban’s Complex West Midtown project at the corner of Ellsworth Industrial and Chattahoochee Avenue on the west side of Atlanta.

“With Max Lager’s being the oldest brewpub in Georgia, and being extremely active in the development of Georgia’s craft beer movement for almost 20 years, we have been actively pursuing a location on the Westside for almost three years.  The opportunity to team with Third & Urban on the Complex project and bring a full-scale production brewery, restaurant and beer garden to Atlanta is a natural progression for us,” expressed Cindy LeBlanc, Chairman and primary owner of Brewed to Serve.

Designed by ASD|SKY, The Bold Monk interior will have an eclectic mix of stone, wood, concrete and steel that will create a contemporary representation of the monastic breweries of Belgium.  The custom brewery will be the playground of Master Brewer John “JR” Roberts.   Having begun brewing in Atlanta in 1996, JR is a Partner in Brewed to Serve, is past Vice President of the Georgia Craft Brewers’ Guild, and has played an active role in advancing Georgia’s brewing laws.

JR’s excitement in designing the new brewery is reflected in the following – “I have experienced a lot brewing over the past twenty years, and with a recent collaboration brew in Ireland, the creation of a cask room at Max Lager’s, and the growing willingness of Georgians to experiment with different beer styles, I have designed a brewery that will give me the flexibility to brew and bottle beers that will represent the evolution of the American craft beer movement.”
