Reformation 95 | An easy drinking German Dunkel

In Atlanta’s northern suburb of Woodstock Reformation Brewery has been brewing up classic European and American beer for three years now.  Prior to officially opening their brewery owners Spencer Nix and Nick Downs invited people to join them at their home for brew days, it grew so large they had to open an actual brewery to accommodate all their friends.

To celebrate their anniversary Reformation is releasing 95, a traditional German Dunkel.  We recently sampled 95 and it’s loaded with toasty and bready notes that give the beer a rich character, but it’s still smooth and drinkable and just 4.7% ABV so you can enjoy a few at one time.

Downs and Nix say the beer’s name and recipe are a nod to both their love for church history and their humble beginnings. “In the  early homebrew days, a Dunkel was our first all grain recipe; it was always a favorite,” Downs  states.  In reference to the beer’s name Nix says, “Luther had 95 problems, but thank God beer wasn’t one,” explaining that the  historical Martin Luther, who famously nailed his “95 Theses” to the door of the Catholic church,  was also known to enjoy his wife’s home brewed ale. “Rebel Kate was an amazing woman. She was a former nun who brewed her own beer and managed the household finances.  She  deserves immense respect.”
