Atlanta’s Monday Night Brewing has a new, brewery-exclusive release coming up on November 9th.  Centaur is a “whiskey barrel-aged Dry Irish Stout conditioned with Batdorf & Bronson coffee.

Monday Night adds an interesting twist to their barrel-aged coffee stout..  Most notably they use a Dry Irish Stout as opposed to the bigger-bodied beasts we usually see for barrel-aging and additions.  Additionally, instead of putting the coffee directly in the beer they chose to condition the coffee beans in the barrels then remove them before filling the barrels with beer.

For the coffee they chose to partner with local coffee roaster Batdorf & Bronson, located about 2 miles from the brewery.  The coffee selected for this beer is a Costa Rica Tarrazu which is medium-bodied coffee with an intense aroma and citrusy notes, sweet fruit, and nuts.  Batdorf & Bronson will be on-site at the Centaur release offering bags of the coffee for sale for only $10.00, 20% off the normal price.  Monday Night will also have samples of a cold brew coffee made with the beans that were used to condition the barrels.

We asked Monday Night for a bit more info on the beer and Head Brewer Peter Kiley told us, “It’s a collaboration between different small businesses redefining craft liquids in Atlanta. Also, it’s the only beer that is half horse half man, that I am aware of. Also, it’s ridiculously delicious.”
