Monday Night Brewing to open second location on Atlanta’s Beltline

In just a few short years Atlanta’s Monday Night Brewing has grown tremendously. Their brewery walkthrough on Google Maps, filmed in 2013, looks nearly bare compared to their facility today. Since opening five years ago they’ve added a 5-barrel pilot brewhouse, several tanks, a canning line, a centrifuge, and a lot of barrels. With no room to grow in their current brewery they had to look at new locations for expansion.
It’s no secret to Georgia beer fans that our state is not the best environment for craft brewers. With Mississippi’s pending changes to their beer laws Georgia will be the last state in the country where a brewer cannot sell their beer directly to consumers. The news of their second facility in the works naturally brought comments that Georgia must not be too bad for brewers. However, the fact is that breweries open and thrive in Georgia despite the challenges they face. The guys at Monday Night are well aware of the challenges ahead, and their business plan accounts for those challenges. However, they remain hopeful that change is on the horizon.
When it opens in the Summer-to-Fall of 2017, Monday Night’s new brewhouse will be home to their barrel aging program as well as an expanded sour and wild ale program. Situated on the south side of Atlanta’s Beltline the location will feature a tasting room as well as a patio surrounded by an “urban orchard” with a variety of fruit trees and plants, which will be used to cultivate local yeasts and eventually provide fruit to be used in their beers. The possibility of an apiary at the site was still under discussion.
