Second Self was in the studios for the Beer Guys Radio Show’s 6 month anniversary!

It was a packed house in the Beer Guys Radio Studios this week.

Jason Santamaria and Chris Doyle from Second Self Beer Company stopped by. They talked about their upcoming opening of the new tasting room and how they got started. The two friends from Georgia Tech were long-time homebrewers before going “pro.” Jason talked about his culinary background and how his travels and cooking expertise influences Second Self’s beers.

If you’re interested in buying tickets for Second Self’s tasting room’s grand opening, head here.

Also, Craig from the ABV Chicago podcast was in town. He swung by with some nice Illinois-area beers too! He’s in town to take in a Braves game (don’t judge) and find some great beer. We talked to him about the craft beer scene in the land of Lincoln, and his bewilderment over Georgia’s baffling beer laws.

Tim checked in to talk about his week, including his homebrew club’s gose competition (which he won, natch) and his love of Northeast IPAs.

Aaron talked about his recent quick trip to Southern California, and the craft beer scene there, including an amazing stop at the Bruery’s new tasting room. Read his full report here.

Truck and Tap’s Beers of the Week

Second Self Maverick and Gose: Light and refreshing, this low ABV (4.4%) is a nice summer choice.
Second Self Citra IPA: (6.2% ABV) Their newest canned release, we got our hands on it less than 24 hours after it was canned. With Columbus, Amarillo, Citra and orange, grapefruit and lemon peel, it’s definitely citrus-y (is that a word?)

Danger Zone! @secondselfbeer #gabeer

Finally, to celebrate our six month anniversary, Aaron pulled out The Bruery’s 8th anniversary Poterie, an English style ale aged in scotch barrels and brewed Solera style.

Happy 6 month anniversary to us! @thebruerytr @thebruery #craftbeer #cabeer

Headlines

Really, the big story happened with SweetWater. Unfortunately, two truckloads of their beer was stolen earlier this week. Although police have been able to recover some of it, it’s a complete loss. “Minister of Propaganda” Steve Farace filled us in on the latest. More details here.

Hell yeah @atlantapolice, thanks for finding some of our stolen brews!

Tim’s Whale of the Week

A couple of beer releases to look out for, including:

Eventide Citrus Grove Hefeweizen

Fat Tire’s CollaBEERation pack

Homebrewer’s Corner

Tim answered a listener question as to why his keg wasn’t producing enough carbonation.

Next Week

We’re talking to one of the hottest breweries in the South, Birmingham’s Trim Tab, and we’ll talk local beers with blogger Mike Sully, aka Taproom Press. Have a great week, and always remember – drink local! Cheers.
