This Week on Beer Guys Radio

Georgia BeerWe say hello to our neighbors as we chat with Alabama’s Back Forty Brewing and North Carolina’s Wicked Weed.  The best laid plans of mice and men, right?  The intention of this week’s show was to talk a bit about each brewery and then focus on their beer laws to highlight the battles our neighbors are facing as well as how better beer laws have helped craft beer to boom in North Carolina.  What actually happened was we talked some about beer and breweries, then more about beer and breweries, then we drank a lot of beer… which just led to talking about more beer.  C’est la vie.

We kick off the show with Jason Wilson of Alabama’s Back Forty Beer Co.  Jason tells us how he got into craft beer and the fight he’s had owning a craft brewery in one of the only states with laws nearly as sucky as Georgia’s.  Jason goes on to share some of the brews coming out of Back Forty and how they’ve found success fighting the laws in his state.  Next we’re joined by Evan Crutchfield of North Carolina’s Wicked Weed Brewing.  Evan talks with us about the explosive growth of their brewery and future plans for expansion, as well as the boom of brewing in Asheville and North Carolina in general.  He brought a few goodies for us to try and we talked more about lager tanks and foeders and sour beer.  Distribution of Wicked Weed just started in Georgia in October and they’ve hit the market heavy, be on the lookout for a few new beers coming this way from them soon
