On February 27, 2016 the Peach State Brew Off will return to Atlanta for it’s 23rd year.

PSBO is Atlanta’s oldest homebrew competition and attracts entries from across the country.  This is an AHA sanctioned event and will follow the 2015 BJCP guidelines with categories for beer, cider, and mead.  A People’s Choice category will also return this year with attendees to the awards ceremony sampling entries and voting for their favorite.

The competition is sponsored by Atlanta’s Covert Hops Society homebrew club and is part of the MidSouth Series, a series of six competitions which awards titles for ‘MidSouth Homebrewer of the Year’ and ‘MidSouth Homebrew Club of the Year’ based on points standings across these competitions.  PSBO also participates in the ‘Georgia Brewer of the Year‘ competition.

Final round judging and the awards ceremony will be held on February 27, 2016 at Our Way Cafe in Avondale Estates, this will be the second year that the cafe has hosted the competition.  Organizers are looking for volunteers for both judges and stewards, visit the competition website for more information.

I’ve entered and attended this competition the last two years and it’s a great time, I even landed a 2nd place medal for my saison in 2014 but sadly got shut-out in 2015.  However I’ve got a feeling way down in my mash tun that 2016 is gonna be my year.  Homebrewers from all across the south attend the event and it’s an excellent opportunity to chat and share tips as well as sampling some beer for the People’s Choice award.  PSBO’s raffle is always popular and past prizes included grain, hops, yeast, books, gift cards, hats, glasses, and a lot more.  The public is welcome to attend so if you haven’t started homebrewing yet but are curious to see what the community is all about you should definitely consider checking it out.  See you there!
